Mail Art!

Good day mates!
Well other than the fact that I have sinusitis. Just having a calm relaxing afternoon after going to the clinic  today for this sinus infection. The headaches from this infection have just been over the top! So what better get well therapy than working on some art? NONE..well the antibiotics might help but that should take another day or two to start kicking in. Made one mail art for my sisters room mate Chris. The three of us send each other mail art because we get sick of getting only bills in the mail. It is so much fun to find a creative treasure in the mail box! Takes the sting off all the other garbage that ruins a day lol  I will be working on one in a bit for my sister. I think I will call this one...Hubba Bubba! LOL
Sometimes we fill these little self made pockets or envelopes with little stickers or embellishments or even sometimes nothing but air...just nice to get cool mail and HEY it keeps the post office in business as well as brightens the day of mail carriers! Anyone interested in swapping some mail art let me know! I'd be happy to send something to brighten your mail experience and love getting it myself!
Hope you all are having a groovy Tuesday!

Sewing tiny little things and a wedding in the works!

Good Monday morning all! Hope this finds you well..feeling slightly rough this morning slowly waking with my morning cup of fresh brew! What a busy weekend we had. The swap at my sisters went well yesterday. When I got there she had this waiting for me.
Yes, Don and I are finally picking a date, in fact we did pick a date but did not realize yesterday that the date we picked was only two weeks difference from my nieces wedding. Not good, we do not mind picking a new date simply because it is so early on still and we have not singed any contract, given a deposit on a date or anything of that nature yet so it is not a big deal to me to change the date. I did love the idea of a late May wedding...not too hot, everything in bloom..however 2 weeks apart is just way too demanding for the guests that would be attending both. So...we are looking at possibly late April or early September. Do not want to do it when it is so hot no one is happy at an outdoor gathering. This is going to be very simple, very small and very informal. I have some amazing cute ideas, many of which I can make or do myself. I am not a girl who holds on to traditions, I think outside of the box. While the values for me are probably considered traditional, I find it insane to pay 1,000.00 for a wedding gown that will be worn one time and stuck in a box to maybe or maybe not be worn by my daughters. I can assure you they like their own things and have their own taste so that would most likely never happen. I'd rather, if I had it that is, use the money a gown would cost to go on a great trip! That is more my style. It has been a long time coming for Don and I. He asked me about 3 years ago to marry him and fear of the unknown, always waiting for affordability and everything in-between has brought us to this day. He was honestly starting to convince himself that I just did not want to marry him. We both have children from previous partners and we wanted to make sure we had the blessings of all the kids and DO..that makes me very happy. Our parents...and we DO..that also makes me very happy and so it is. Can't wait forever to make things in life happen they don't fall from the sky now do they? Not unless their meant to land in your eye. So...Aside from being excited about wedding stuff, the weekend was a mess. The starter on my car went, it was cold and raining here, went through hell and high water to get the car fixed for various reasons and yesterday things were much more calm and better. The swap of art supplies that I mentioned went well. Came home with an entire box of goodies which you can see below!

YAY right?! Love you Vickie and Chris  you guys rule!
Then we came home and I hemmed a pair of work slacks...can't begin to tell you how fast that was done and how incredibly happy I was yet AGAIN for my new sewing machine the girls got for me....after hemming my work slacks had that feeling yet again, when I pulled out some scrap material's and made my first two Blythe doll garments!! I know they’re not perfect but their the first two I have made and it is kind of difficult to make clothes for something so tiny!! Thought I was going to sew right through fingers or something lol. Here are the two dresses I made for her! I just adore my Blythe doll, and have wanted new clothes for her and now, it is ON!! I will get better and better at this as it goes and she will have one heck of a wardrobe! I hope you all had a great weekend and that you were able to spend time with the people you love, do something fun, spurge on an ice cream with your honey or CREATE a masterpiece :) I hope you all have a great week and let it go by at the speed of light! Already looking forward to next weekend! :) Peace & love~

Weekend stuff!

The weekend doesn't always pan out the way we hope for it to. Thought this weekend was going to be a calm relaxing one but the powers that be had a different plan in mind.. Friday I went to my car from work, and it would not start, thought it was the battery however, it was not. The starter died. So...the weekend started out the gate with car drama. It is fixed now but it took so much work just to get the car get the part off in the freezing cold, get the old part to the place for the new part and the new part on. UGH! So tonight I made a great dinner, chicken enchiladas for Don who froze his behind off working on this car all day. They came out wonderful! Check out these yummy photos!

Yum right? So simple and easy. Here is the recipe for anyone wanting to give it a go.

Two cups of boneless skinless chicken breast ( can be substituted with ground chuck or turkey burger
1 can of whole kernel corn
1 can of black beans
1 lg can of el passo enchilada sauce
2 cans of Campbell's nacho cheese soup
1 lg bag of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
 10 flour tortillas

What you do is (and you can add things or subtract things to your liking we will add rice next time we think) you preheat the oven to 350.
Mix in one bowl the enchilada sauce and nacho soup and set aside. We use a George Foreman grill for the chicken so it is done very fast and is juicy, cook and shred the chicken tenderloins.
In a bowl mix the corn, chicken, black beans, rice if you like and fine diced green onions.
Pour enough of the sauce mixture to cover the bottom of the pans you will use, then warm the tortilla's for about a minute covered with paper towel in the microwave so their soft to roll.
Fill them with the chicken mixture, a dash of the shredded cheese and line the pan with them.
Once the pan is full cover the top of them with more sauce, shredded cheese and greens of the green onions.
Baker for 30 minutes and their done! Very simple and quick meal and their oh so good!~ If you don't like them a bit spicy or making them for little ones use the cheddar cheese soup and not the nacho one. Less spicy.

So, after dinner we sat with a glass of blackberry wine and watched The Boys Are Back. Some would suggest that I enjoy sad movies but it is not the sadness or the tear quality I look for it is movies about the human experience. I will never forget watching My Sisters Keeper with my daughter Kori and she and I honestly and literally killed an entire box of Puffs by the time that movie was over and even after the credits rolled we were still crying it touched us both so much.  I remember saying and Don reminds me every time I want to watch it again that I said "That was the best movie I will never watch again". I like these types of movies because yes, their one of my favorite genre of movies but I love movies about the human experience because you can either relate to it, know someone who could or it is an affirmation of what is good and bad in life. What we take for granted, what could happen and I find myself being so full of gratitude and sincere love and emotion when their over. One of my favorites also is the movie P.S. I Love You. Not only...is Gerard Butler my crush husband in another life hot hunk of OMGGness, :)...ahem...the movie is so great. My oldest daughter Sam came and made me go with her to see that movie at the theater with her one night and at the time I had been mad at Don for something completely pointless and meaningless and the movie just tore me to pieces. I came home sobbing and saying "I'm sorry, I got mad at you for something so stupid and I love you and don't want you to ever die on me" LOL Point made. So the movie tonight was good and touching. And since I have just been working on a few things here and there. Piddling as I call it. Made a new banner I hope to upload here when I am done typing you all a novel. Who actually reads all of this? I do not know but my soul says write / type and so it is. :)
I am a bit bummed that my car took far more of my long awaited and anticipated weekend but its done and there is always tomorrow. Hopefully having a swap with my sister and her room mate Chris tomorrow, going to see my mom for a bit and the rest of the day will be making art! If you are not in the know, a swap is when we go through art supplies, scrap booking materials and scraps of all sorts, and we fill a shoebox with things we have extra of or things we think the other will enjoy more than ourselves and we swap it. We go through the boxes and trade if you will. Last one we did was so fun here is a photo of our scrap madness! It is so cool its like shopping with no money!! :)

Fun right?! You bet...my sister saves and gives me things he finds that are Blythe because she knows I am obsessed with Blythe dolls. She had one and gave it to me to do some photography of and play with and I eventually coned her out of it but I want so many of them. Only the old ones from the 70's though. I like the new ones but there is something about the ones that were surfacing in the 70's when they stopped making them that I just am fascinated with.  Anyone not in the know and curious here is a link to the Blythe official website and there is a ton of info on the net about Blythe dolls..
And so...excited to do a swap tomorrow and also get around to some painting myself before the new work week presents itself. I hope you all are having a great weekend thus far sorry for the novel here but the week days do not permit me to do very much with my blog so its my weekend treat and HEY...i have so much to tell you guys!!! :)
Peace & Love

A weekend full of sewing!

Spent a great deal of the weekend with my sewing machine. Happy with the results, though I will say again that I need some practice working with actual patterns..I do well with making my own and just being creative but some patterns are rather difficult to understand! Made up a few new swear words lol Completed two of these super cute baskets made of fabric, cotton batting and old jeans. Found the idea on pinterest and posted the link in the last blog for anyone interested in giving them a go. Their super cute and can be used in various ways for various things. I stuck some of my materials and patterns in them just for the sake of the photo and contrast but I plan on making a few of the small ones, this is an image of the large and medium ones...the small ones will be great for pencils and markers and paint brushes...

Went to my moms for dinner tonight and watched the movie Real Steel with my mom and step father. Pretty cute movie actually. It is currently 12:35am and wishing I had not slept in today. Sleep will be difficult for me tonight because of that so thank goodness I do not work until 2pm Monday afternoon.

The second photo is yet another idea I found on pinterest..it is a reusable shopping bag and the pattern for this is so simple made from a plastic shopping bag. Someone who doesn't have a sewing machine but knows how to hand stitch can make these cute reversible bags. I made a couple for my girls at Christmas time. if I am not mistaken, you can see them under the SEW IT link on my home page. I made this pink one you see below for my mom she liked it a lot!

Now..I've poked myself with stick pins enough for a night and I am ready to be out for the night. Hopeful that this week will be far less stressful and eventful as last week was. For those following, my dad is doing much better and so is Don's mother. Thank you God, thank you God, thank you God. <3
Until we meet again folks...peace & love

Love Pinterest Ideas!!

With the help of my honey...because I was ready to chuck this thing out the window and he helped as usual with the instructions...I made this with an old pair of jeans that were torn and just hanging around...some scrap material and batting / ribbon...and I LOVE it love love it love it!! Was a little tricky doing the circle bottom when I am not a pro seamstress...only been sewing for less than a year and working on my first real pattern bag currently...this was not that difficult really once I got the hang of the circles. Here is a link to the instructions if any of you are interested in giving this a shot...I am using this one for patterns and material I am using right now. I have a big treasure like box I keep all of my material in but it gets old pulling it out and making a mess with it all to get to it as I am so limited in creating space...these little baskets can be made in all sorts of sizes and their just darling!

I have a friend who is pregnant, a couple actually and I can see these as making cute baskets to fill with baby shower gifts, Christmas or birthday baskets...anything really. This is the larger one of the three sizes, and I really want to make the smaller ones for pens and colored pencils and such...
Having a good relaxing weekend so far. To my moms for dinner tomorrow evening but looking forward to sleeping in a bit...doing some housework and working on some more projects before that.
Good night pals..sleep good...zzz

Colors in my day

Thank goodness the weekend is upon us folks! Been a long week coming full of tons of work, a tad bit of stress and I am enjoying the fact that it is Friday!! Headed out after work today to run some errands and colors were jumping out at me everywhere I looked inspiring me to create pretty things, making me thankful for sight. Working no some sewing projects tonight, but wanted to drop in and add some color to your day as it brightened mine...everywhere I looked!

Then I saw this!!
Yes, oh yes...a flying pig. I do not need this toy I want it...and the want is powerful therefore it becomes need. Just sayin...gotta have the flying pig!
And out of all of the sweet tooth sugar fix things you see here, this is the only thing we actually had some of. Blackberry cobbler!! To die for!
Hope your weekend is off to a good start..I'm sleeping in tomorrow..woot woot!! :)
pe@ce & love darlings...until next time..

My new machine has been calling my name..

Hi everyone! What a week it has been. Hope you are all enjoying Valentine's Day with your sweeties. Don and I have had a very busy stressful week with both of our parents in the hospital either having surgery or recovering from surgery or in my dad's case declining health after surgery. It has been a really tough week for my dad and hence for me. He had heart surgery on Friday to get a new pace maker and defibrillator and ever since the surgery he has gotten worse in other ways. Saturday he was diagnosed with Gout and Sunday they were ready to release him and treat him outpatient and when they would take of his oxygen mask he was getting none on his own. They still do not know why.  I have been so worried about him. Thankfully Don's mother is having better luck. She is healing well and while she is very sore she returned home today. We are worried still about her but so happy that she is doing well.  Keep the good thoughts and praters coming please...can never have enough of those!
I was able on Sunday for a couple of hours to play with some creative things and boy did I need it. My soul was begging for some down time..and it was getting the point of knowing I had better feed the need. This week does not seem to be offering much of that...but tonight I pulled out my sewing box to see what material I have left. I did so many projects over the holidays and have a ton of scraps left over that I would like to somehow use.  My daughters Sam and Kori bought me a new sewing machine for graduating with my masters in May..it to date is the best gift I have ever gotten and I never thought in a million years that I would love sewing as I do. I love materials and colors and threads and it is just one more medium for creativity. I do not ever foresee myself making my own clothes, though I have to admit I look forward to one day having grand children to sew things for. I more less have used the new machine for a few different projects like reversible tote bags for the girls for Christmas, pillow sets that match their rooms, and made a few blankets for small nieces and nephews...stuffed owls which I could not get enough of for a few weeks...I just love them. So I have all of these odd sized bits of material left and I pulled it all out tonight. The excitement of seeing all the colors and patterns and buttons inspired me to turn on my lens...
Singer Brilliance Can't tell you how much I love this machine
Pins and ribbon
I love colors and patterns...various different types of material
Buttons buttons buttons!!!
So..as you see I have plenty of left overs  to play with and have found a ton of great sewing ideas on pinterest and various other sewing sites for making very cool fabric covered baskets and liners, as well as tote bags. I do believe I make take a great deal of my scraps and create a mod podgy sort of journaling bag for myself. Everything I have made so far with this machine were made as gifts and while I am a giver and love so much to make things for others I think I might make myself a nice bag for taking journal materials on the go to coffee shops and vacations. I will be sure to keep you posted and share with you what I come up with.
The Boom Boom card project has not been abandoned. I found out that there is not just one mail deliverer but three, yes two woman and one older gentlemen deliver our mail and not sure who on what days. Our mail box is down the road a bit from our place so I never see the mail deliverer. Just need to come up with something I can commit to doing for all three of them. Always a wrench in my big plan. :)
So that is what has been going on in my life, hope all is well in yours. Going to go play with some pattern making and ideas for my bag and then spend some nice quality time with my Valentine. Hope you are able to do the same tonight! Peace & love~ <3

Hey everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day

Wooden box from Micheal's. Acrylic paint, gesso, scrap sheets, decorative tape, gel medium, bubble wrap, stamps, ink. So simple and fun to make these boxes. Wooden balls purchased separately and painted.

Full of blessings and gratitude

Both of our parents are stable and doing well right now. I can finally breathe for a little bit. In need of some quiet down time. Feeling blessed and full of gratitude. Never take life for granted...I've done it in the past and how stupid I was to do so...I've learned..every day...every hour...every moment...every smile, every phone call, every kind act, every everything counts in large amounts.

What a week!

Well hello everyone. Didn't abandon my blog by any means. Just been a highly busy and stressful week for us here. Don's mother just had surgery today and in the morning my father has heart surgery. Rather worried about him some of you may know that he was in a bad car accident over Christmas and was hurt rather badly, and now this surgery is absolutely necessary. Not at all related to the car accident but the condition of his heart prior to the accident.  The pace maker he has is out dated and the battery is going dead. He hit the floor a couple of weeks ago and was own for 9 seconds prior to it kicking in. That may not seem like a very long time but when you think of it in terms of a heart not beating that is a long time.
Aside from those things the normal every day stress stuff and I have not been feeling good myself for days now. Have a cold and have been coughing like there is no end to it. So happy Don's mother is doing well tonight and getting some much needed rest after her surgery. It was very comforting to know her surgery was done and that she did well. She is in our thoughts tonight. We will be up and leaving here tomorrow morning at 530am headed to Oakwood hospital in Dearborn Michigan where my fathers heart surgery will take place. Please keep both of our parents in your thoughts and prayers if you would be so kind...we can use all the prayers we can get!
On a bit lighter note, if you have never had a Cherry  Lime-Aid from Sonic...its a must. Man these things have to be the best soda kind of drink on the planet. LOVE them!
Have a few pieces of art in the works frankly too many honestly. lol Isn't that always the case? More ideas and projects than we know what do with?
The only thing completed this week with all of the stressful events we have been dealing with is my lovely Queen of Hearts. I am really loving this new Folk Art I have been playing with. Not new to the world of art by any means but semi new to me. I'm very happy with her and considering how little time I have had to work on her she came out rather cute I think. Hope you enjoy her!
Queen of Hearts 8x8 canvas ~ Acrylic, ink, paper, wax and watercolor
I hope you all have been having a good week thus far and that you have found time to create something special. I am looking forward to the weekend myself to work on some things. But will enjoy it much more and feel much less stressed out when I know my father and Don's mother are healing and safe. At almost 41 years old, I have sat back and reflected on my own relationships with my parents and find irony in the fact that one day you wake up an adult, and your parents almost role reverse with you. Both of my parents have had such a hard few years and I have been trying very hard to mentally and emotionally prepare myself for anything that could happen and it just does not work. I do not believe anyone can ever prepare themselves for such an event. Resting my head tonight worried and hoping for the best. Good night my friends...bless us all!

Sure felt like a Monday!

It is late so this will be a short post...Worked until 8:30PM this evening and then had to drive Don out to Martins garage to do my breaks. Thank goodness their done, they were getting pretty bad. Found myself on the way home, feeling very tired and full of gratitude for the good things and people in my life. Said some internal kinda prayers. Dons mother and my father are both have very important surgeries this Friday...keeping good faith and fingers crossed that all things go well with them. It is after 11 and I am still in business attire from the day...finding myself even when I an exhausted thinking about sketching some faces, playing with characters, working on Don's Valentine I am making for him :) Painting this box that is starring at me that I did not have time to get to this past weekend and....finish my mail lady / man's random act of kindness. Not sure how much time the work week will allow me to work on things..8:30 is a tough one because it leaves so little time in the evening before it is time to sleep and do it all over again! Thankful. Regardless. For everything. Even the tough stuff.
Everything.

Super Bowl Sunday

Not a big fan of football. Actually that is a huge understatement, the truth is I loath football. I would rather eat nails than watch football, or be tortured some cruel and inhumane way than watch football. However....I always keep my word. I promise every football season that I will watch one entire game with Don. So..all season long I put it off and put it off and put it off and before I know it...it is Super Bowl Sunday! And it works out great because he is happy its Super Bowl Sunday and cheers on his team and I am cheering just because it means football season is almost over!! HA! Huge crock put of homemade chilli going...its been a busy Sunday around these parts. My dad visited this morning, went to get break pads for my car cause I trust God and have blind faith but not in stopping a car with no breaks! :) Finished the small box I started yesterday, think I could have done a better job on it but pleased enough for the first one I've done. I have one more to do that is much larger and I'm happy about that because I'd like to add more mixed-media elements to this one and there is plently more room for that! Here are a few photos from my day. I hope you have had a nice Sunday yourself! Say hi when time permits so I know I'm not alone here in the world of blogging! :) Always nice to hear from my new friends here!
Peace & Love

On it's way!

Happy with it so far...sides of the top almost got completely redone but
I like even the flaws..adds character! More to come later!

Saturday = Art Day

Good morning palz!
Hope the day finds you well and in good spirit. Ever feel like you have more ideas than you have time to complete? That is how I am feeling right now. So many have too's last night I did not even get out of work clothes until 9:30pm. That is how it goes sometimes right? Today I have a few things to get around to, something special for my mail carrier as part of my boom boom card random act of kindness..looked at Michael's for spray paint but refused to pay what they wanted for a can. I know I can find just a simple matte finish white can of spray paint for the cans that I am making. Will have to look sometime this week. Beyond that I found a cute little wooden box that I want to paint / decorate mixed media style. Cute little box and I have big plans for it. Hoping it comes out the way I envisioned it! Got a couple of good coats of Gesso on it last night. Can I just say that I LOVE Gesso!!!! It is by far one of my favorite art supplies and it serves so many different purposes for me its just so good to me. :) Thankful today for Gesso! Knowing how many other artist and mixed-media artist in particular are here I bet many of you feel the same! So here I sit with my favorite mug...a starbucks ceramic tall mug my daughter Kori got me for Christmas, has a sliding lid so it stays warm longer...sipping morning brew...YUMMY coffee and not far from starting my day. After some housework and a shower...I will be happy to just sit and loose myself for the rest of the day in creativity. Hope you find time in your own day for something like that! Have a wonderful weekend and HEY incase you missed it Dona was the so lucky winner of Lia Lane's Valentines Day giveaway! Dona if you see this post please make sure to get your mailing info to either me or Lia so we can get your little sweeties out to you! And congrats!

A special tribute to my daughter

This morning we attended an award ceremony for my youngest daughter Kori where she was presented with some very honorable awards. I am overwhelmed right now with pride as a mother, gratitude for my children and almost tears that she is a senior.
A few months ago Kori entered a contest by creating a poster for the International Auto Show. Out of 897 posters Kori won first place which got her a very nice award (not today but when she won) two free tickets to the Auto Show, $500.00 in cash prize and her poster on the website and display at the International Auto Show. Very cool! I felt very proud then. Today was ever greater. She was chosen as one of only two students at her High School for the awards she received today.
High school is so hard for kids today. The pressures on them are enormous compared to what we 40 somethings ever had to endure. There is a great weight on their shoulders with so much peer pressure. I am proud to say my daughters have been so incredibly strong and willful minded to not let things detour them. That is not to say that they never slacked on homework, received a detention or fallen victim (as they would have you believe) of failing a class or two. But with hard work, dedication and drive all things are possible and both of them knew that from early on. They have made me such a proud mother. My oldest daughter Samantha was no different. Always a wonderful student and excelled at everything.
My heart is full of gratitude today. For them wanting to make their parents proud, for them working hard to achieve their goals and for them striving for excellence and self growth. I couldn't ask for better kids. I'm full of gratitude toward them for TRYING. That is all I have ever really asked for let me see you TRY.

Thank you Kori...for trying. I love you!
